Do you need a Robot Vacuum? How to pick it?

Let me start by saying if you are the selected few among us who loves house cleaning, taking great pleasure and satisfaction in every bit of hands-on house cleaning task, the robot vacuum might not be for you. So don’t waste your money buying one. Keep up the good habit and enjoy your house chores.

However, for the rest of us who either do not have enough time to do house cleaning regularly or simply find house cleaning too tedious and boring. Buying and owning a robot vacuum is a worthwhile consideration.

Robot vacuums will clean your floor while you are out at work or even when you are vacationing in some exotic locations. All you have to do is to preprogramme the robot vacuum to clean the floor at a set time or use your handphone to remotely instruct the robot vacuum to clean the house while you are out of the house. Either way, you come home to a cleaned floor without having to lift your fingers to the broomsticks and dustpans, leaving you with plenty of enjoyable free time.

Robot vacuum is also an indispensable gadget for pet owners. Robot vacuum does a fantastic job of cleaning animal hair on the floor or carpet. Where the broom fails, robot vacuum will clean up all the hair left behind by your pets! For families with mansions that are too large to be cleaned by yourself, let alone having to complete it all within a day, the worry ends here! If you have a vacuum robot, your life would be so much easier, all you have to do is schedule the robot vacuum to clean everyday or even twice a day if you would like to, leaving you with an effortlessly squeaky-clean house, making you the greatest time theft ever in house cleaning history. Compared with a conventional vacuum cleaner, which requires manual operation, a semi-automated intelligent product, a fully automatic intelligent robot vacuum is a way better option. Of course, if you have a few maids in your family, just pretend that you didn’t see me writing this~

How to choose a robot vacuum?

Basic Functions

Apart from the obvious of having a good vacuum cleaning capability, a good robot vacuum must have the ability to avoid obstacles and falling down stairways. It should have scheduling and automatic recharging function. Importantly, it must be clever enough to avoid entanglement with objects and if ever entangled it should be able to escape the entanglement. Otherwise, you will end up having to “supervise” the robot vacuum frequently.

Visual navigation or laser navigation

Avoid robot vacuum that relies solely on visual navigation. Robot vacuum that uses visual navigation does not function properly when the condition in the house is dark.

Robot vacuum that uses laser navigation is a much better option. Not only it is not affected by the lighting condition in the house. It is also able to map the house much more accurately.

Suction power

Number matters when it comes to suction power of the robot vacuum. The stronger the suction power, the cleaner the floor and carpet. Generally, the suction parameter of robot vacuums are between 1500 and 2200Pa. I recommend you to choose a robot vacuum that has a whopping 2700Pa suction power to make sure your floor and carpet are clean thoroughly.

Dust box

The larger the capacity of the dust box the better. If the dust box is too small, you may need to clean the dust box a few times during a single vacuum cleaning session. To eliminate this problem, buy a robot vacuum that comes with a automatic dust collection box.

An efficient robot vacuum should have a powerful algorithm that can map and plan the entire house, enabling the robot vacuum to clean the entire house.

The body of the robot vacuum should be as slim as possible, so that it can clean under the bed and furniture in the house without getting stuck, leaving no nooks and cranny uncleaned.

What are some of the good robot vacuums in the market?

The hot-selling robot vacuum brands in the market are:  Ecovacs, Roborock, i Robot, Narwal and UONI. Personally ,I am using a robot vacuum V980 plus developed by UONI in recent years. It is incorporated with the latest user-friendly robot vacuum technology. UONI holds on to its aim of constantly innovating in terms of technology and functionality of the robot vacuum, made possible through their consistent, thorough and ever challenging breakthrough research and development team.

What I like most is, Uoni 980V plus comes with a 1000w powerful  automatic dust collecting function. It will automatically suck the dust and debris into a dust collection filter bag in the self-emptying dustbin which is also the recharging station. With this function, I do not have to clean the dust box manually, no more having to get a mouthful of dust each time I clean my vacuum cleaner.

Furthermore, Uoni V980 plus, also comes with a mopping function, which means you can use the robot vacuum to vacuum dry or wet mop your floor. One robot vacuum encompassing 2 cleaning functions.

Hurry and get yourself a Uoni 980V plus; let it do all he hard work of cleaning your floors and carpets, while you just sit back and relax.

What is the difference between a robot vacuum equipped with a self-emptying dustbin and an ordinary robot vacuum? What are the points to note when choosing?

If you are planning to buy a robot vacuum, here are some tips and my 2 cents worth for you. Impulsively buying a regular robot vacuum is a waste of money; if you have already bought one, it is not recommended for you to read this, for fear that you will be filled with regrets. As technology advances, ordinary robot vacuums are slowly being replaced by robot vacuums equipped with automatic dust collection systems. By comparison, the robot vacuum with the automatic dust collection systems is really awesome. Here we would look into the differences between the two. Why recommend choosing the robot vacuum equipped with the automatic dust collection system and not the regular robot vacuum?

Ordinary robot vacuums can't really “free your hands”. It is unable to synchronize both the sweeping and mopping option, even the dust in the dust box has to be cleaned manually. Ordinary robot vacuums can only help you sweep and mop the floor, and if the capacity of the dust box is small, you need to clean up the garbage in the dust box frequently. All the dirty things cleaned up from the floor that you detest seeing will have to be cleaned up by you again. Each time you clean the dust box, inevitably secondary air pollution happens, causing you to have another  encounter with the dust mites, debris and all the unwanted particles. You may also have the chance to have a taste of the dust while cleaning the dust box each time.

The robot vacuum equipped with the self-emptying dustbin is geared with a high-power vacuum dust collection integration, which can not only charge the robot vacuum, but also automatically collect dust. "The robot vacuum eats the dust, and the self-emptying dustbin fills up the garbage from the robot vacuum into its stomach"! This means that the robot vacuum replaces your work of cleaning and frequent garbage dumping, and directly sucks all the garbage into the dust bin automatically! After the robot completes the cleaning work, it will automatically return to the dust collector. The dust collector uses a vacuum suction technology to automatically remove the rubbish in the dust box and collects the rubbish into the dust bag. There is no need to manually clean the dust box, which is very convenient.

From the above comparison, it is clear that the robot vacuum equipped with the self-emptying dustbin truly allows for a hands-free cleaning experience. My new UONI cleaning robot is equipped with a 4300ml large-capacity disposable fiber dust bag, which can hold up to 30 days of daily garbage. In other words, I only need to throw away the dust box once a month without  having to manually clean the dust box every day. Moreover, the whole process of the dust collection is completely sealed and airtight, so that it does not puff out dust during the process, and will not cause secondary air pollution.

What are the other points to note other than the dust collection system?

The robot vacuum equipped with the dust collection system has the same function as the ordinary robot vacuum, so when selecting the automatic dust collection sweeping robot, in addition to the dust collection function, other purchase points are similar to the sweeping robot. When choosing, pay attention to the main points of purchase.

  1. Mapping technology: The sweeping robot with gyroscope navigation need not be considered. Choosing mature LDS laser navigation technology and visual planning technology is a way better option.

  1. Endurance: First of all, look at the battery capacity. It is recommended to choose a larger one, because the battery will definitely undergo a certain loss after some time, and secondly, check if there is an automatic recharging function.

  1. Induction system: Infrared detection and bionic ultrasonic detection are most widely used. Infrared detection mainly uses the principle of infrared light sensing. Infrared radiation detects the surface of the objects. Infrared detection components can convert infrared light signals into electrical signals to determine the placement of objects in the environment, allowing the robot vacuum to recognize the environment.

  1. Suction: 1500Pa-2700Pa is sufficient. Of course, the greater the suction, the better, but at the same time it comes with a louder noise.

  1. Mopping function: The mopping function of the robot vacuum does not really differ too much between brands. Except for the iRobot floor sweeping robot, all others are basically sweeping and mopping integrated machines. For the water tank, it is best to choose an electronically controlled water tank.

  1. Other functions: Obstacle crossing function, continuous scanning at breakpoints, fall prevention and intelligent voice control.

The UONI V980 Plus+, the robot vacuum I started with, can be said to have really improved my life as a whole, stealing time for me that I have never have had the chance to have before. I no longer have to worry about floor hygiene, even the dust box can be automatically cleaned up through the self-emptying dustbin system. I only need to replace the dust bag once a month. In addition, it also supports remote APP management, such as setting up scheduled cleaning, designated area cleaning, no go zones and other handy functions, which make daily use more convenient. It certainly is worth every penny.

Here are some key points to consider, when purchasing a robot vacuum:

Before purchasing a robot vacuum, it is recommended to select a robot vacuum that is tailored to the user’s environment, habits and expectations. Other crucial factors such as the characteristics of the robot vacuum, the pricing point as well as the after-sales services should also be taken into strong consideration.

The concept of the robot vacuum is not foreign to all of us, generally we know that it can achieve automatic cleaning, save manpower as well as increase cleaning efficiency. However, our understanding towards the robot vacuums is stagnant at this level only. To truly choose a robot vacuum that is suitable for us we must understand its features and characteristics.

  1. From the perspective of demands, you can consider getting yourself a robot vacuum for the following situations
  2. The air quality in the air nowadays is deteriorating, the level of fine dust in the air is also rising. If the floor of the house is left uncleaned for just a few days, the floor accumulates dust so easily, leaving an unacceptable amount of dust in your house.
  3. For families with furry friends, their fine hair flies everywhere to the floor, which may be too troublesome to clean up especially on carpets.
  4. For houses that are very spacious, requiring a long time to clean, allow the robot vacuum to do the work for you.
  5. For areas hard to clean such as under the sofa or under the bed. The robot vacuum can enter into narrow spaces nimbly.
  6. A special gift for a special someone during the holiday seasons or special occasions. The perfect gift for the elderly, the busy housemaker, and everyone around you. With the robot vacuum, let it do all the tedious housework, and spend more precious moments together with your loved ones.
  7. For people who have their hands full, when you get back from work all you want to do is just lay down and get some rest. Precious time should not be wasted on cleaning but resting. Let the robot vacuum do all the grinding for you, leaving a squeaky-clean house.
  8. I’m just too lazy to clean up. The robot vacuum is your new best friend.
  9. Smart home is the new dream home, how can you leave out a robot vacuum?

  1. Classification of robot vacuums

The planning and navigation system of the cleaning route by the robot vacuum is divided into the traditional random cleaning type and the planned navigation type.

The basic mode of a traditional robot vacuum is to move in a straight line until there is an obstacle, turn an angle, and continue to move straight. This method causes the robot vacuum to have a very clumsy navigation, it does not navigate intelligently but runs around abruptly leaving random spots uncleaned and repeated cleaning at certain spots.

The second method is the planned navigation that has been implemented amongst robot vacuums in the past year. It obtains the ground map of the home through scanning, exploration, calculation and other methods, and plans the cleaning route. Its main feature is the ability to divide the cleaning area, the cleaning process is regular, the repetition rate is low, while cleaning an open area it is cleaned back and forth in a Z shape, and it will automatically stop after the cleaning task has been completed.

Whichever method you choose, it depends on your family's conditions. However, a robot vacuum with the planned navigation system comes highly recommended. The robot vacuum is able to accurately and swiftly map and navigate itself in your home, identifying and avoiding obstacles such as furniture and thresholds, preventing damage caused to the machine itself as well as your furniture.

  1. Ease of use

The substantial element for a robot vacuum is convenience. A robot vacuum that can clean up the dust box after each cleaning session by itself is what truly makes it a hands-free cleaning experience. Amongst us, there are many who are allergic to dust, and debris, this allows them to avoid the hassle of cleaning the dust box by themselves and having to have runny nose or uncomfortable eyes. UONI quickly realized this, developed and launched the V980 plus+ robot vacuum, it is equipped with a self-emptying dustbin and charging station in one body. Its main function is to charge + clean the dust box. When the dust box is full, the robot vacuum will automatically return to the self-emptying dustbin. The dust is vacuum sucked into the dust bag of the self-emptying dustbin, avoiding the trouble of having to clean the dust box, also preventing secondary air pollution. A truly user-friendly option to people who are prone to allergies.

  1. Scheduled Cleaning

A cleaning schedule can be set, and the robot vacuum will start cleaning from the charging stand at regular intervals which you can set. After finishing its cleaning task, it will automatically return to the charging stand. With this function you can set for it to clean while everyone is away from home allowing you to come home to a clean house without even noticing it working. For example, the UONI V980 plus+ robot vacuum can be scheduled through the APP, which is very convenient allowing you to control it remotely.

Generally speaking, the robot vacuum is an intelligent, floor cleaning companion that can automatically complete your cleaning work, clean dust, debris, lint and small particles. It is exceptionally qualified as your daily home helper, leaving you with squeaky clean floors and a whole lot of time to chill out and enjoy life.
